PE and Sports Premium
The Government have confirmed a £600 million commitment to the PE and Sport Premium continuing for at least the next two academic years (2023-24 and 2024-25).
Context
The Government announced back in 2013, through its commitment to sport, healthy lifestyle and community enrichment, their intention to spend over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools initially over 3 academic years starting in 2013-14. This funding has then been extended each year to date.
The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.
Funding Levels
Schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil.
Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.

St Andrew’s has received the following:
- 2018-19 academic year: £18,000
- 2019-20 academic year: £18,030
- 2020-21 academic year: £17,866
- 2021-22 academic year: £17,759
- 2022-23 academic year: £17,690
- 2023-24 academic year: £17,650
Our Aims
In order to make full use of this funding and continue to improve PE provision and raise achievement for all pupils in sport, the below was set out in line with whole-school PE targets and needs identified in staff questionnaires and pupil questionnaires:
- Daily exercise to become a regular part of the curriculum
- Active play times – supported by LSUPs and support staff
- NSSPEA training dependant on staff needs
- To develop active links with community sports and leisure providers
Impact
The impact of this funding will be measured through:
- Pupil perception questionnaires measuring the interest of children in different areas of the PE curriculum
- Staff perception questionnaires on subject knowledge confidence and feedback on the quality of support offered by specialist support
- The increase in the number of children engaging in sporting activities
- The increase in number of children attending a sports club either in school or outside
