SEND
At St Andrew's, our vision and ethos is “growing together” to unlock potential through a curriculum where pupils thrive and develop character and master knowledge and skills. Everyone is valued and cared about. We welcome diversity and pride ourselves upon the fact that we embrace a wide and varying community and that we always strive to achieve the highest standards possible. We are passionate about ensuring that every child leaves our school with the skills and experiences required to lead happy and successful lives.
The majority of pupils will make progress within the Universal Provision without the need for additional support from the SEND register. Universal provision entails high quality teaching within an inclusive environment and ensures a positive experience for all pupils whether they have special educational needs or not. Details of our universal provision offer can be found in the attachments below. Those children who need additional to and/or different from this offer will be added to our SEND register.
We pride ourselves on the relationships that we develop and the care and kindness that we give to every child as an individual. Nurturing children is everything that we live and breathe. We have been an accredited Nurture UK school (since January 2025) and we run three SEMH provisions: the Haven is a traditional model nurture group with groups; The Nest is a nurturing intervention for smaller groups of pupils and the Chalk Room is a low stimulus space for individuals needing a low sensory environment to support regulation.
Part of our provision is our use of the Learning Partner model for the deployment of our pupil facing support staff. This is an evidence based approach from MiTA research which is also supported by the latest EEF research. Our Learning Partners are training to increase pupil independence through strategies such as prompting, clueing, modelling, scaffolding and questioning within each individual's zone of proximal development.
The kind of support your child may receive whilst with us might include:
- Small group interventions
- A personalised plan to meet a child's individual needs.
- Access to outside agencies e.g. speech and language therapy, educational psychologist etc.
As well as supporting children we also want to support parents. As a result, this page is designed to give parents/carers access to any of the information you may require regarding special educational needs provision at St Andrew's Primary School.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo), Katie White, works with the team to make sure that appropriate access to the curriculum is available for all children.
