STARTING SCHOOL
At present, the policy in North Somerset is that children have three years of Infant schooling, namely Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
The number of children in each class will vary from year to year. The school follows the procedures agreed by the Local Authority and admits 30 children into a given Key Stage 1 year group. Once this admission level has been reached the Headteacher is legally obliged to refuse further admissions. Parents may appeal against this decision to the Local Authority who may agree to a place being offered. The Headteacher will explain the procedures if she has to refuse admission to your child.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN STARTING RECEPTION AT ST ANDREW'S
There is a phased admission for the Reception children by admitting them on a part time basis initially. An induction visit will take place during the summer term prior to admission, for children and parents. Your child will have opportunities to visit the school and to meet their class friends and the adults who will teach them. At the beginning of September you will also be offered a home visit where the Class Teacher will visit you at home to discuss your child’s entry into school and answer any questions you may have. In October there is a curriculum evening to introduce parents to the curriculum and again, to answer any questions.
Admission forms for new children
When your child starts school you are asked to complete a registration form, which includes vital information about how and where to contact you in the event of an accident, illness or other emergency along with other key details to aid your child in starting school. We would like parents to contact us as early as possible which helps considerably with our forward planning. Registration forms are available from the school office during the preceding academic year in which your child is due to start school.
Data Protection
St Andrew's Primary School takes the data protection obligations very seriously. All personal data is stored securely in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 2018. All new parents will be issued with our Privacy Notice providing further details.
